I started reading the "Outlander" books last October, and I'm now nearly finnished "The Firey Cross". I have soooo much in common with both Clare and Jamie. I'm the family Genealogist, my Mother was from Glasgow and my Father is from Manchester. She called HIM Sassenach! He is a Freemason as well. My Grandmother would tell us stories of Scotland, and I learned my Nursery rhymes the Scottish way. I know alot of the expressions used as well. There is lots more of connections. I love these books, and almost fees as if Clare and Jamile are part of my family.

Having just graduated from college (with a double major in International politics and Euro History) i was seriously burnt out by all the dry and 'academic' political theory and histroy i had to read. So i found the outlander series (quiet by accident) while i was at costco looking for some 'light' reading. After reading the first chapter of the first book, i promptly bought all 5 books immediately. After stretching it for as long as i could,I just finished the Firey Cross, and feel this emptyness as if i had lost something near and dear to me. I then found this site, and and want to say 'thank you' for having the time, empathy and compassion to make a space for people like me.

I discoverd Diana Gabaldon's books last year and have read them all within 5 months. I couldn't help it, I just had to read them all through. I became addicted and I cannot read another book by another author until I have finished the entire story of Jamie and Claire. I am desperatley awaiting the new book after the Fiery Cross. I am now rereading the entire collection. I cannot believe it, but I am enjoying it almost as much as the first time I read them. I am glad to know that I am not the only one who LOVES these books.

I have been a huge fan of Diana Gabaldon from the moment I read the Outlander, right after it first went to paperback. I love Jamie and Claire, the time period, the rich history woven into the lives of this couple. I didn't know about this site until I just found it in the "Outlandish Companion". I just bought this book, and have spent every spare minute reading through it word for word. I am truly captivated by Jamie and Claire, as I know so many other people are. I anxiously await the future books, and will hate to see the story end... Barbara Everhart

I loved Diane Gabaldon"s books, they are the best books that i have read ever, i could not put them down. Is Jamie based on someone, if so is he married, i would deffinitly follow him anywhere just like Claire. I wish that the series could continue and also be brought to life on the screen, but with lots of looking for the right people to portray the characters. Thank you for writing these books they are amazing.

I have truly enjoyed the Outlander Series. I like the the charcter developement, historical detail and language. It has inspired me to research and write our Scotish family history which are the Grahams of the Sterling area. The only time I was upset with Jamie is when he told Claire that the Graham Clan was "stupid".

How wonderful to see so many people as enthralled by these books as I am. A clerk at the book store suggested reading the Outlander Series. She assured me that once I started, I wouldn't be able to put it down. The understatement of the year! I started just after Christmas, just finished The Fiery Cross a couple of days ago, and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Outlandish Companion in the mail. The next book in the series can't come soon enough. To make things doubly interesting, I have relatives by name of Fraser still living in Scotland. Doing some digging and questioning of Grandma and Aunt to follow the family tree back. Should be a long and tedious process, but sure in the long run will be a great thing to know. To read these books and think that I might have had relatives that were actually there when all of the events of the Rising and such occurred. It's mind boggling. Can't wait to find out all that I can about the family heritage to pass down to my daughter.

I just finished the Fiery Cross and I want more! But oh well I understand writing books with the depth and talent Diana writes with takes time. I started with Voyager that I picked up at a garage sale and when I finished it, realized that there were more after and before that one, so in 3 months time "swallowed" all of them up! Kudos to this author for writing so creatively!

I love telling everyone I know about them. And yes I love Jamie, he is perfect. I wanted to find someone just like him, accepting, giving and understanding, strong and a real man. What a wonderful story. I am sad each time I finish a book, I do not want it to end, and have to start all over again. Please tell me how to become a Lady of Lallybroch. My best to the best. Debbie

I have just discovered the story of Jamie and Claire in Mid-December, but I have never before been so captured by a story as to read five 1000-page books within three weeks :o) I am not quite done reading yet and already I feel sad that soon it will be over... Dear Ladies of Lallybroch, I have almost finished my first Diana Gabaldon book, Outlander, and it has, quite frankly, left me spleechless. The story quickly became so real and the characters so alive that I am hard pressed to put it down. What an incredible love story... I was so happy to have found your site while searching for questions I had regarding the books. I couldn't, however, read all of the posts for fear of receiving too much information. :-) This book has "pulled me in" far more than any I have ever read. (And I have read an incredible amount!) Thank you for such a fun and informative site. Should you ever care to add another "Lady of Lallybroch" please let me know! With kindest regards, Cheri Frost

I was reading all the comments and I had to put more down.. I came across Diana's book by mistake!! can you believe it.. and now I can't get enough of them.. since reading these books I have started research on my own family and have come across that my family came from scotland (mom's side) and ireland (dad's side) things are still array.. but hey I'm still digging.. and yes I agree with most James Frasier would be any woman's dream husband.. Long live the clan I say.. and Diana don't stop writing about this great family.. I have read all the books..and I'm currently waiting for the saga to continue... will we find out out Jemmy' paternity.. will William know that Jamie is his father... and when will it end.. oh the possiblities there mind boggling.. hey you fans out there you want chat drop me a line.. i will more than happy reply.. I have been passing the news about these books all over my work.. and I will say everyone is spellbound!!!! KUDOS TO YOU DIANA.. XOXOXO

In less than a month, I have stormed through four of the books, in addition to the companion. I've never hardly read any books in my life (with exception of those forced upon me during schooling!), prefering to ride motorcycles and pursue more adventurous forms of entertainment... now I'm in the midst of confusion, do I read more of the books, or spend time with my husband?!?!

Verra good web site, Sassenachs! I have never read anything like the Outlander series till this last fall when a friend left a book at work, and when I discovered I didn't have anything to read on break and lunch(That drives me nuts!)I reluctantly picked up a book she had, called; "The Wedding" by Julie Garwood(?) after that I was hooked on anything scottish, especially anything in a kilt! After multiple books by different authors my friend had lent me, I happened on "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon at a 24 store here in Ohio, I thought to myself..."ALRIGHT! THIS IS THE ONE MY FRIEND WAS TALKING ABOUT TOO!" Picked it up, and was forever changed. My Mom has for years tried to get me to read books like this...and I have been an "unmovable object" to my Mom's "irresistable force" Thank God I found my way to this series! I wrote all of the above for a reason...sometimes you just have to be ready to read a book. Then when the time is right, that book becomes available to you...I don't know if that makes any sense... I am upset that I haven't been on the "Outlander" band wagon that long, but I am 'trying' to make all my friends and family members read it. I recently sent it to my Mom and cousin as Christmas presents! the site ladies and lads, and I don't know if they will ever make a mini-series of "Outlander" but it would be interesting to see how it would translate to film. There is so much detail in that book, makes me wonder if I would even like it. My other fave author's books (S. King) are usually butchered pretty good if he doesn't have anything to do with the filming and production. Take care all you Diana Gabaldon fans, and thanks to the Lady herself for bringing these lovable characters into our lives! I have NEVER CRIED OVER CHARACTERS IN A BOOK LIKE I DID OVER JAMIE AND CLAIRE WHEN THEY HAD TO PART! Peace to all...

Last Christmas, my aunt sent me several books as a present. One of them I dismissed as a 'cheesy romance novel' after reading the back jacket, and not being a fan of that kind of book, I stuffed it on my bookshelf. Several months later, I was running low on reading material and decided to give it a try. Now, God help me, I am completely obsessed. I have one of the books from the series on me ALL the time, and read it on the Rapid, in the car, during meals, everywhere. I love these books!! Your website it FANTASTIC, I especially love the Scottish sound files. BTW, I haven't yet found someone who would make a good Jamie, but I've always thought the actress who played Evelyn (I don't know her name) in The Mummy and the sequel would be the PERFECT Claire. Lots of Scottish Love and Mphmmmm's, Alexis

I just recently discovered the "Outlander" series (Though I vaguely remember Drums of Autumn, having read it 2 or 3 years ago totally out of sequence and was therefore very confused by it)and have loved it from the first chapter. I have read every book, including "The Outlandish Companion" & "The Fiery Cross", several times. I have shown up at work exhausted from a night with Jaimie & Claire. (Having slept as little as they seem to!) I am visiting your site because it was praised so highly in "The Outlandish Companion". Bravo! I have thoroughly enjoyed your site! Do you ladies (and lads) have any chat rooms you frequent? And could I bother you for an invitation? Thanks again! Whiskeyed

I only just discovered the Outlander books a few months ago. I, of course, became immediately addicted. I read the first book in one week - and I am not really a fast reader. I just couldn't put it down. I have read the first 3 books now and trying to decide whether to read more or not. To be honest, I am a little bit concerned about my obsession with them! Given my lack of will power, I am sure I will be buying and reading the 4th book before Christmas.

This is a very impressive site you've got here! I am interested in joining your group. I've been a hard core Outlander fan for about 4 years now and I really need some friends who love it like I do. I have been stumped as to why I cannot get any of the people I know to read them. I like to read them straight through about once a year. I have never found anything I enjoyed more than these books and I am a voracious and varied reader! As far as I am concerned, she should have a section of her own in the book store as the quality of the writing is so far above that of any other "romance novel". She just doesn't belong with that grouping. I am looking forward to communicating with other like minded women about the Outlander series. Thanks, Annie Reynolds

Whenever I have to see my ex to pick up our seven year old from visitation, I visualize Jamie sitting in the car with me for a sense of protection. Even though he only has eyes for Clare, he is very protective of women and children. I don't think Clare would mind me borrowing him for this purpose. I don't think she'd be much impressed with my ex either and she's used to women having crushes on Jamie so I don't think she'll judge me too harshly. Hi Myladys, I am great fan from Germany. I am reading the fith part of the books and I am very happy that it was printed yet. Sadly I must wait so long for this lovely book. In the meanwhile I have spoke to many fans here in Germany so I thought about to make a yahoo-group for german fans! I have post the link in the hope to find more german-speaking fans to discuss the books and about Scotland, historic and other themes around it! I promise that there were not slashy things or any other crazy or mad themes on the group - I would kick those members out of the group! The group is only for members. New members need my OK to enjoy the group, so I can controll the messages and the files which would posted there. I have travelled to scotland four years ago and there was the first book in my suitcase. It is very interisting to read the lines at the original places (Culloden for example). Thanks for your listening, Sla'n agat Steffi

My goodness, what a bunch of admirers! Glad to have found this site, i think it will keep my head up high after i finished "The Fiery Cross". I never thought i could fell in love like this with a book series, it has become my own private life elixir and whenever i feel down and lost i let my thoughts drift away to Jamie and Claire, wherever they may be, if its Scotland, France or USA... The reason why i spend time online to search for sites like this one is, that im feared to spend time on reading "The Fiery Cross" - if i do its over before dawn! What should i DO then?!? If anyone feels to write me, i`d appreciate it very much, i guess it'll cheer me up if i can talk to like-minded... Keep up the good work, Julia with greetings from Germany

I read Outlander while I was pregnant with my son. I think I must have been so absorbed in the book that I had a "ruadh' headed laddie. We have not had a red head in generations, so obviously the only explantion is that I absorbed Jamie by osmosis thru the book. Lucky me. I hope my son can grow to be such man. Can't get enough of these books. One of my best friends told me if I loved The Bride/The Wedding by Julie Garwood then I would go crazy for Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. Boy was she right. My husband bought me books 2-4 for Christmas this past year (BIG MISTAKE). I finally got to start reading Outlander in May of this year and just finished Firey Cross. 5 books in less than 3 months, I would say I'm a little addicted; and now, I'm having book withdrawl. I am interested in finding out how to become a Lady of Lallybroch, if someone could let me know I would appreciate it. One of the funny things for me is I have red hair and blue eyes (both of which are my natural color) and my husband & I dress in Scottish ware for our local Renaissance Festival. I have loved ever word written by Diana Gabaldon in the Outlander series since I first read the Outlander in 1994. I have laughed and cried and read and re-read all of the stories. I have re-searched the history of the Scottish Jacobites, and am floored by the accuracy with which Diana portrays all the characters. I wait impatiently to find the ends of all the puzzles in the next book.

The Outlander series has been passing hand-to-hand among my group of women friends; Margaret found this site and told me about it. I read these books one after the other and felt pretty well submerged for two months. Like everyone else, I'm sad that there is no more at present, but I also feel that love stories -- even true ones -- have a kind of curve of declining interest. I mean, isn't it more intense before the couple is united than when they settle in? I'm not sure what more can happen to Jamie and Claire that won't be repetitious (is this sacrilege to true Lallybrochians?) For continued thrills, I'd like to know what other books you gentlewomen have enjoyed. I've been reading my 10 year old son the Earthsea Chronicles by LeGuin. Any other suggestions?

It is the kind of book once you start reading it you can't put it down (as at least half of my friend will agree as I have given them the books and told them to read it and now they are all fans), the best thing I done in a long while was pick up the 1st book and start reading it. I loved the Outlander and have just started reading Dragonfly in Amber. I was really interested in finding out more and I found this site. You have built a great site and I plan to visit again I love all the info you have provided about various things. I just wonder if anyone knows anything about the miniseries, has it already aired on T.V. and I've missed it? Anyway I think that your right Jamie is a great guy it wouldn't be to hard to fall for a guy like that.

I love the books, all of them, I just told a friend about the books. She said that someone else had told her about them but she had forgoten, well I told her that you'll find no other like them, I told her you'll fall in love with them all, but my heart goes out to Jamie. See, the way I see it is Claire gets another chance with Frank in another life but Jamie is just dead. The only way he can see his love is to come back as a ghost and that just breaks my heart but I guess that's what makes a greate love story and maybe you could help me understand in the 'OUTLANDERS COMPANION' Mrs.Gabaldon is telling how she came up with their names, well I can't find were she got Jamie's or Clair could you help me with this?

I have just finished reading the five Books of DG, plus Through the Stones, and imagine my JOY at finding this wonderful site from said book. I am no longer feeling bereft, I actually feel reassured that there are other people out there who have experienced the same response to this fantastic series of DG's. I belong to Fraser clan already, through my Grandfather who came from the Highlands originally. My only problem now is becoming computer literate enough to read the boards and perhaps follow the instructions "one day" and join a chat room. I will live in hope.

Hi gang....Just came across your website. It is wonderful! As someone who has all but memorized books 1-4, I find it a very welcome and enjoyable place to visit. I especially love Belinda's "reduced" versions of the books. No, I haven't read #5 someone on a budget I'm waiting for the paperback edition. But SOON! Anyway, thanks for all your efforts in posting and maintaining the website.

I feel there should have been some time travel in the last book because unfortunately it was not a book that could be read on its own - you had to know the story (from the previous books) when talking about the 1960s otherwise it was very confusing.

Glad to meet real hosers. I am torn because I'm just starting to read the series (totally devoted to Jamie) and don't want to read too fast knowing that the series is finite. However, I can't really particpate very deeply in the boards because I don't want to know what's going to happen. I'm torn between wanting to particpate and not run through the series too fast. What to do? What to do? Guess I'll just wander around and try not to find out what's ahead. I am also a Doug and Bob McKenzie fan. When I lived in Edmonton, I saw them shooting an episode in my neigborhood. Thought is was rather surreal at the time especially when I saw it on TV. My favorite is the mouse in the beer bottle. Thanks, you guys. Lyn

I am so glad I stumbled across this site. I am a mother of twin girls with a 30 acre grape farm in upstate new york. I don't have much time to read between the girls and working the farm. About a week ago I decided to start a book I was given years ago that had been in a box in my basement. I picked up Outlander thinking it sounded pretty interesting. Little did I know this book would take me places I have never dreamed before. I read it in 3 days and now I am re-reading while I wait for the arrival of the second book. I have always felt I was born in the wrong century and the wrong place. Now I know I was meant to be with a scotsman in the 1720's. I have been floating about for the last few days feeling out of place and out of my head. I want everything about claire and jamies life. I want to roam the scottish countryside and pick herbs and be away from the naggings of our day and age. This book has disturbed my life, I want to go to scotland and find that stone and feel the past come alive for me! As a little girl I didn't play with dolls, I made bows and arrows, I dreamed I was an explorer in strange lands and different times. I am 27 now with a farm and daughters and AN old farmhouse to restore. In one week after reading the book my priorities have taken a backseat to the stirred up dreams and longings of a more primitive time. Its nice to know there are a group of people out there that are also affected so strongly by the writings of a woman and her stories of the two people we all want to be ;Claire and Jamie Fraser.

I read Outlander about 9 years ago; stumbled onto it really. I wasn't a big fan of fiction, but loved history. I needed an escape at that time in my life and bought the book on impluse. I have been hooked since! I came across your site yesterday and didn't have time to peruse it until now. It's very informative and I LOVE the illustrations. Thanks to all of you who work on this diligently. I have enjoyed your site thoroughly. Laura

I have thoroughly enjoyed Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and am looking forward to reading the rest of it when it is published. Since I have read through the series twice already, I am looking for something to occupy my time until the next book comes out. This website is a great deal of fun! Thanks for taking the time to create it!

My mother originally recommended that I read "Outlander". Since I have been doing genealogy research on my Scottish ancestors, I thought I would give the book a try since the setting was Scotland. I have now read the first four books and plan to buy "The Fiery Cross" soon. I think these are some of the best books I have ever read!

OOPS!!!! guess I should have read the guest book before I added a comment. Looks like there are some of you newbies out there. I am just about to finish Dragonfly in Amber and am so totally engossed in this story that it is hard to do anything else. I have read both Outlander and Dragonfly in less than a month, which is really fast for me. All my breaks at work are spent reading and lots of housework gets left by wayside. I also think that the lol site is one of the best I have visited. Thank you ladies.

Yes! My name is really Clair. My own dear Mother suggested the Outlander, as I was a nursing student, romantically inclined, and very interested in herbs/& the Isles. She was recommended these books by a WWII nurse! I read all Diana's books back to back! And the Outlanser twice! A true literary fan, artist and writer. Clair

I can't get out of these books. I've read all of them in less than a month and I am going to have to start over because the next book isn't out yet. This has ruined me for all other books. Outlander is still my favorite.

These books are too much!!! I've read all of 'em twice each and just get absorbed in the intensity! Good to know there are some other fanatics out there like me!! Here's hoping the mini-series (if it ever happens) does justice to the books (but I am sceptical). I am jealous of all of you who are reading the series for the first time!!! ENJOY!
